Security Watch
Written By Alan Harten

myNBC.com is being used by spammers and the infection could possibly spread to all the blogs on the site, according to Pacific Coast Information Systems Ltd. (PCIS) who spotted spam and tracked back to the myNBC page.

The worry is that, as a household name, people may not be concerned about clicking on links on the NBC site, and thus could fall victim to spam that may infect their computer.

The spam blog is located on the myNBC site itself and it advertises pharmaceuticals.

This practice is specifically against the sites TOS, but at the time of writing was still present on the site.

According to PCIS this is a clear indication that myNBC is currently not secure and also that it is, or may be being used by criminals searching for victims in cyberspace.

Of course myNBC is not the first case of a big company being targeted by hacking or spamming criminals.

The problem is that although these companies are responsible and make every effort to remove search violations from their site, it may take some time to be discovered and in that time criminals can gather all kinds of destructive information. Reprinted with permission.
