  • Number of Students: 24,065

Situation:

Technology innovation and evolution fuels changes to a school’s IT infrastructure increasing demands both on manpower and IT systems. Like many school districts of its size, School District 41 undertook upgrades in an effort to satisfy the growing demands of their schools. They implemented a migration project moving from Novell eDirectory and Novell GroupWise into Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange. As they expanded and upgraded the school district system, there was a critical need to re-establish an intelligent monitoring system to help them optimize their system’s performance, to minimize major disruptions by identifying potential threats and to improve the efficiency of their department’s operation, on their new Microsoft platform.

There were a few notable monitoring products in the market with options for in-house implementation or outsourced solution that offered deployment services, expert advice and support.

Challenges:

Many school districts across the country shared the same challenges of budget constraints, lack of in-house expertise and knowledge and the IT resources to maintain it on a day-to-day basis but School District 41 saw the direct correlation and benefit of implementing an intelligent monitoring solution. For the District, implementation required knowledgeable experts who can deploy and train the staff on how to use the product without necessarily adding to the workload of current IT staff nor requiring the department to hire additional IT staff.

Action:

PCIS was recommended to School District 41 to help with the integration and deployment of the new intelligent monitoring program. Given the budget constraints, PCIS proposed a project-based plan that was customizable and affordable and achievable within the given timeline.

PCIS’ expert advice and knowledge in deployment services, their ability to train current staff and their flexible solution, helped to fill the experience gap between the current in-house talent and the required skill set for the project upgrades. PCIS introduced an Intelligent Monitoring solution to help the District proactively maintain, monitor and manage their more robust IT infrastructure allowing them to take a proactive approach in their system management and maintenance.

Results:

After more than 8 years, PCIS has forged a relationship with School District 41 providing expert advice, IT services and affordable solutions that fit their budget and human resource needs. Their on-demand availability, flexibility and expertise gave School District 41 the assurance, reliability and proactive support it needed for a cost effective solution.
